On Friday February 5th, VWAT Family Services Board members, staff, and 57 senior members came together to celebrate the Lunar New Year with the passing of the year of the Ram and welcoming the year of the Monkey.
The event commenced with performances by seniors including sharing some songs and poems. Mrs Binh-Minh Hoang, VWAT’s Chairperson, shared warm New Year’s greetings and wishes to all, followed by many more warm wishes from senior participants. A celebration was made with delicious traditional home-made food brought in by loyal senior members who have been with VWAT for years. This event brought together senior community members to share the wonderful Lunar New Year spirit with one another. We shared joy and laughter together as a community, and continued building the wonderful friendships of VWAT’s Seniors Program where participants become long-term friends and companions.
Participants enjoyed themselves with various typical Vietnamese dishes such as spring rolls, sticky rice, BBQ pork, duck and chicken , and especially Bánh Chưng & Bánh Tét for the New Year. We all had an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the taste and spirit of a traditional New Year celebration with music, laughter and best wishes for the New Year.
