VWAT Family Services is seeking youth volunteers for our 2026 Summer Day Camp!

We are looking for students aged 15 and older to join us as Camp Counsellors. Youth under 15 may also be considered for Camp Counsellor roles if they demonstrate the experience, maturity, and confidence to supervise and engage groups of children. Those who prefer a more supportive role are also welcome to apply as Office Volunteers.

This is a great opportunity for students interested in working with children, education, recreation, or community services.

Camp Dates (4 weeks):

  • Week 1: July 6-10, 2026
  • Week 2: July 13-17, 2026
  • Week 3: July 20-24, 2026
  • Week 4: July 27-31, 2026

Camp Counsellor Responsibilities:

  • Attend a mandatory training workshop prior to camp (scheduled for late June, exact date to be confirmed)
  • Supervise and participate in activities with campers (ages 6–13), including excursions across the city using public transit
  • Work collaboratively with the Day Camp Leader and fellow counsellors to ensure a safe and positive environment
  • Build supportive relationships with campers through engagement, compassion and understanding
  • Take attendance at the start and end of activities
  • Provide general feedback to parents when needed
  • Adhere to a no cellphone use policy during camp hours, except in emergencies

Commitment: 

  • Minimum of one full week (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
  • Volunteers are expected to arrive on time and attend all scheduled shifts
  • This role involves being active and on your feet for most of the day


Office Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Attend a mandatory training workshop prior to camp (scheduled for late June, exact date to be confirmed)
  • Support daily sign-in and sign-out of campers (ensuring guardians sign forms)
  • Assist with snack preparation and grocery organization
  • Help set up activities such as arts and crafts
  • Support beginning-of-day set-up and end-of-day clean-up, which includes sweeping, taking out garbage and recycling
  • Adhere to a no cellphone use policy during camp hours, except in emergencies

Commitment: 

  • Minimum of one full week (Monday–Friday)
  • Choose one shift:
    • Morning: 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM
    • Afternoon: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
    • Or both
  • Volunteers are expected to arrive on time and attend all scheduled shifts

All volunteers will be supervised by experienced staff and camp leaders.
