Celebrating Tết Trung Thu 2026 in Toronto: Honoring Tradition, Uplifting Community

This year, VWAT Family Services was proud to host the Mid‑Autumn Children’s Festival (Tết Trung Thu) at Northwood Community Center 15 Clubhouse Ct, North York, welcoming families, partners, and community members for a joyful and meaningful celebration. The program began at 1PM, and throughout the day, the venue was filled with excitement, laughter, and cultural pride. With over 350 attendees, this year’s festival stood out as one of our most vibrant community gatherings.

We were honoured to welcome distinguished guests, including MPP Michael Kerzner, Solicitor General of Ontario, and City Councillor Anthony Perruzza. Their presence brought warmth, encouragement, and a strong sense of partnership to our celebration. Both leaders have shown ongoing support for VWAT Family Services and the diverse communities we serve, reinforcing the importance of cultural preservation and youth empowerment in Toronto.

A special highlight of this year’s celebration was the recognition presented by our local MPP and Councillor, who honoured two of our Board Members for their long‑life dedication to volunteerism and their outstanding contributions.

The MPP also recognized the remarkable commitment of our volunteers—individuals who consistently give their time, energy, and heart to support families, youth, and cultural programs at VWAT. Their dedication reflects the strength and resilience of our community, built on shared values and a deep commitment to uplifting others.

As always, the heart of Tết Trung Thu belongs to the children. Families enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including:

Lantern making
Paper mooncakes
Colouring stations
Balloon creations
Face painting
And the crowd‑favorite: cotton candy

The celebration opened with a lively traditional dragon dance, filling the venue with excitement, and concluded with a beautiful lantern procession, symbolizing hope, unity, and the guiding light of community.

Throughout the afternoon, children showcased musical performances, traditional Vietnamese instruments, dances, and cultural showcases. We were also honoured to welcome performances from our Korean and South Asian community partners, reflecting the diversity and harmony of Toronto.

Before closing the festival, the children presented a delightful áo dài showcase, followed by joining the dragon parade and lantern walk. The event ended with laughter, joy, and shared pride—leaving families with beautiful memories and excitement for next year’s Tết Trung Thu.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible dedication of our youth and adult volunteers. From setting up the venue and running activity stations to preparing food, serving guests, and managing clean‑up, our volunteers worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Their enthusiasm and teamwork ensured that every family felt welcomed and cared for throughout the day.
