Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Youth Program Coordinator to plan and execute summer day camp for children of visible minorities from the Davenport neighbourhood and Neighborhood Improvement Area, Weston Mt. Dennis
  • Prioritize the safety of campers at all times, especially during transportation, excursions, and transitions between sites.
  • Manage camper attendance, sign-in/out processes, and incident documentation.
  • Supervise campers and camp counsellors during activities.
  • Ensure activities are on-schedule.
  • Conduct daily morning check-ins with counselors to ensure everyone is on the same page for the day’s activities.
  • Make sure counselors have all necessary supplies, such as snacks, hand sanitizer, and first-aid kits, for the day.
  • Handle tickets, admissions, and associated costs during off-site activities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for counselors during excursions to ensure smooth transitions and coordination.
  • Address concerns or conflicts with a focus on resolution and inclusivity.
  • Promote respectful and inclusive behavior among campers and staff, leading by example through personal conduct.
  • Be prepared to handle emergencies or unexpected situations, following camp policies and procedures.
  • Motivate campers and counselors to participate actively in activities and foster team spirit.
  • Conduct daily check-ins with counselors at the end of the day to review any issues, feedback, or updates.

Qualifications

  • At least 19 years of age
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Experience planning and organizing events
  • Experience using public transportation to navigate travelling within the city
  • Strong organization, administrative and communication skills
  • Responsible, detail-oriented and takes initiative
  • Dynamic and able to adapt to changing situations
  • Problem solver and resourceful
  • Works well independently and in a team setting
  • Commitment to community involvement and engagement
  • Skills: planning, organization, time-management, client service, teamwork, communication, leadership

Supervision Plan

  • The Youth Program Coordinator will supervise the Day Camp Leader on-site.
  • Coordinator will meet with the student once a week to oversee work development and to provide feedback on the youth’s performance.
