At VWAT Family Services, we believe that building safe, inclusive, and supportive communities begins with standing together against violence. Our organization was originally founded to support Vietnamese women experiencing domestic violence who, due to language barriers, struggled to access essential services. One of our ongoing mandates is raising awareness of domestic violence, ensuring that families know they are not alone and that help is available.

This year, we are proud to stand alongside the Moose Hide Campaign—a grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians working together to end violence against women and children.

The campaign began with a small square of moose hide, worn close to the heart as a symbol of respect, courage, and commitment. Today, millions of these pins have been shared across the country, sparking conversations and inspiring action to end gender-based violence.

For VWAT, joining this campaign is both an act of solidarity with Indigenous communities and an affirmation of our shared vision: a Canada where families are safe, women are respected, and children grow up free from fear. We launched our participation at the annual Mid-Autumn Children’s Lantern Festival on September 20, 2025, in the presence of community members and political representatives.

“When we wear this pin, it’s a reminder that ending violence is everyone’s responsibility,” said Mr. Vinh Truong, VWAT’s Executive Director. “At VWAT, we are committed to supporting survivors, educating our community, and working alongside our Indigenous partners toward a safer and more compassionate society.” From youth programs to seniors’ circles, these conversations within our community have been both heartfelt and empowering.

As an agency serving newcomers and diverse communities, we understand that cultural barriers, isolation, and language challenges can make it harder for families to seek help. By embracing campaigns like Moose Hide, we are opening doors for dialogue, building bridges across cultures, and reminding everyone that violence has no place in our homes, relationships, or communities.

On September 29, 2025, our staff, volunteers, and clients joined thousands of Canadians at the Indigenous Legacy Gathering at Nathan Phillips Square—wearing the pin, attending workshops, and reflecting on how each of us can help stop violence.

We invite all of our friends and supporters to learn more about the Moose Hide Campaign at www.moosehidecampaign.ca and to join us in wearing the pin, starting conversations, and being part of the change.

Together, we can create a future free of violence.
